Lucas loves riding his tricycle, and has been enamored by the "big" kids riding their two wheeler bikes for about a year now. Back in April, my husband and I decided that we would teach Lucas a little bit of responsibility by having him earn his very own "big boy bike". So we made up a sticker chart and told him that if he filled it up with stickers by doing three simple chores a day, at the end of the chart he would get his bike.
Well, 3 months later he has finally filled it up! It took a lot longer than any of us thought it would. Probably due to the failures of both parties (us and him) to remember to do those chores every day! But the little guy did it, and Saturday we surprised him with a trip to Walmart for his very own bike. He had his heart set on a "rocketship" bike. Basically, a simple Huffy brand with the words "Rock It" and a cute cartoon rocket on the side. He also got a new helmet, because his old one was a toddler helmet and is too large for his big fat big boy head. That will get handed down to the newest toddler in the family, Thomas (who also has a huge head, but is 2.5 years behind his big brother in brain growing).
We got the bike home and he tried it out right away. We were amazed by how quickly he got going super fast down the sidewalk and how well he mastered it. Now, it still has training wheels and I'm sure we've got awhile before those come off. But for now, he is happy being a big boy. :)
Here are a few pictures taken on Saturday after we got the new bike home.
And for good measure, here is his little brother the slugger:
